Food trailers for sale in Arkansas
We deliver kitchen and coffee trailers from Houston to Little Rock, Fort Smith, Fayetteville and the rest of Arkansas. Here is how Arkansas permits, titles and taxes a food trailer.
Health permit: Arkansas Department of Health
The Arkansas Department of Health (ADH), Environmental Health Protection, issues a retail food establishment permit in the Food Mobile category.
- Plan review is required for mobile units. The packet includes fresh and gray water tank sizes and locations and a service area agreement with a commissary prep location. A pre-operational inspection follows.
- Plumbing plans are reviewed separately by ADH Protective Health Codes, and ADH says only a licensed plumber may install plumbing. Ask ADH how it reviews plumbing on a trailer built outside Arkansas before you order; we send the plumbing drawings and parts list.
- Fees: permit $35 a year; plan review 1% of the estimated cost, minimum $50 and maximum $500.
- Local permits: Arkansas has no statewide rule overriding city vendor permits, so cities such as Conway issue their own.
Fire and propane
We found no statewide fire or propane permit for mobile food units in Arkansas. Check with your city fire department. Our cooking trailers have a hood and a fire suppression system tagged in Houston.
Title and registration
Title and register at a State Revenue Office (Department of Finance and Administration, Office of Motor Vehicle) within 30 calendar days of purchase.
- Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin assigned to you
- Bill of sale or invoice showing the full price
- Proof of county assessment and paid personal property tax
- Proof of insurance
DFA says a VIN check is needed only for salvage-branded titles.
Sales tax
Arkansas charges 6.5% state sales tax (7% for Texarkana residents) on trailers priced at $4,000 or more, plus local tax capped at $25 per 1% of local rate. It is paid when you register, with a 10% penalty if late. A DFA rule says Arkansas gives no credit for sales tax paid to another state on trailers, so having us ship the trailer to you, with no Texas sales tax, avoids paying tax twice.
Rules and fees change and some cities and counties add their own. Confirm current requirements with the agency before you buy or apply.
