Food trailers for sale in Oklahoma
Oklahoma changed its food truck rules in 2025 and 2026: one health license now works statewide, and fire and propane are handled by state agencies. Here is what applies to a food trailer.
Health license: one license statewide
The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) issues a food establishment license. In Oklahoma County and Tulsa County, you get it from the city-county health department, and it counts as a state license.
The Food Truck Freedom Act (HB 1076, effective November 1, 2025) lets a licensed vendor operate in any city or county. Cities must recognize the license within 5 business days, may charge no more than their administrative cost for a city permit, and may not require a commissary if you carry all the equipment you need. The law's definition of a mobile food establishment includes trailers.
- Plan review before construction and licensure: $425.
- License: $425 initial, $335 renewal.
- Water (OSDH construction guide, 2022): at least 10 gallons of drinking water, a waste tank at least 15% larger, and at least 2 gallons per minute of water pressure. Ours have 40 gal fresh, 53 gal waste and a pressure pump.
- License number shown on the outside of the unit in letters at least 3 inches tall.
Fire: State Fire Marshal decal
Under HB 2459 (effective November 1, 2025), food trucks and trailers need a yearly inspection by the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal and an operational permit decal; inspection events cost $150. Cities and counties may not set their own fire-code rules for these vehicles, except in counties over 400,000 people.
The State Fire Marshal requires a code-compliant hood fire suppression system from January 1, 2026 on units that produce grease vapors. From November 1, 2026, HB 3369 makes the automatic system optional if the unit carries at least two portable extinguishers and staff complete yearly training approved by the State Fire Marshal. Our cooking trailers include fire suppression either way.
Propane: LP Gas Administration permit
Food trucks and trailers that use propane need a permit from the Oklahoma LP Gas Administration: a $10 filing fee, an attestation to NFPA 58 Chapter 16, and a yearly inspection, with the first one due by November 1, 2026.
Title and registration
A trailer used for business is a commercial trailer in Oklahoma and needs both a title and registration through Service Oklahoma or a licensed operator. A commercial trailer must be pulled by a commercially registered vehicle.
- Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin assigned to you
- Form 701-6, Application for Oklahoma Certificate of Title
- Purchase contract or bill of sale
Service Oklahoma says the VIN inspection does not apply to new vehicles.
Excise tax
Oklahoma collects a vehicle excise tax of 3.25% of value for new vehicles when you title or register, due within 30 days ($1 a day penalty after). The flat $10 excise for cargo trailers does not apply to trailers built to provide services. Confirm your total with Service Oklahoma. When we ship the trailer to you by carrier, no Texas sales tax is charged; see nationwide delivery.
Rules and fees change and some cities and counties add their own. Confirm current requirements with the agency before you buy or apply.
